TMT Approach

We genuinely believe that no matter what, ALL KIDS CAN LEARN AND BE SUCCESSFUL IN SCHOOL! The tricky part is that sometimes kids can get behind, discouraged and frustrated. Unfortunately, this has the potential to trickle down into their self-esteem, effort and attitude toward school.  Our approach is to really listen and get to know your child and family so we can create a plan to ensure success. Our easy-going teaching styles and mission to make each session fun and engaging is something we strive for with every student. Life and school can be stressful, working with us is not. While we’ll do all we can to motivate kids to work hard in every session, we’ll also strive to make sure we are having fun, smiling  and cracking jokes. Learning is hard work but it should also be enjoyable.

After graduating from U of O in 2000, I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. Well, I did know that I wanted to get out of the rain. So we moved to Bend to live the outdoor life. That first year I was a snowboard/ski instructor up at Mt. Bachelor. Teaching wasn’t even an idea at the time, I was just doing it for a free ski pass. Turns out I really enjoyed teaching and had a knack for it. After a few more years of being a ski/mountain bike bum I went back to grad school and received a masters in teaching. I student taught in Bend at Jewell Elementary  and went on to teach 4th and 3rd grades there for 10 years. After those awesome 10 years I was offered a spot at Silver Rail Elementary which was brand new at the time. I taught both 4th and 3rd grades there as well. I truly feel lucky to have been able to teach for 14 years in Bend!

I love to teach and help kids reach their full potential. All kids can learn and I welcome the challenge of discovering the different learning styles and applying whatever techniques I can can to ensure students are successful.

On a personal note, I really do love living in Bend. My wife (Kate), son(Evan) and I try and take full advantage of what Central Oregon has to offer. When I’m not working, I’m playing. Whether it’s mountain biking, snowboarding, playing music, camping in our trailer, floating the river, a nice hike or a stroll downtown for a slice of pizza, I’m out there enjoying it. Life is good here in Bend.

See ya on the trails. . .

I have worked with children and families for the past 16 years in various capacities. I earned my B.A. in psychology from the University of South Florida, and my Master’s in Teaching from OSU-Cascades. I completed my student teaching at Silver Rail Elementary and then went on to sub for a year, before taking a position at a local charter school, teaching 3rd-5th grade. Prior to teaching, I worked for High Desert ESD, supporting behavior needs of students in classrooms, and working closely with educators and families throughout the district. I love being able to support the emotional and educational needs of children. My approach to education is to make learning as fun and engaging as possible, while fostering a deeper understanding and instilling an appreciation for learning.

I was born and raised here in Central Oregon and feel very fortunate to be raising my own children here. We love to explore and take advantage of everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer. In my spare time, I can usually be found outside mountain biking, hiking or paddling. I also love to learn! Currently, I am working toward my yoga teacher certification, and am also learning to play guitar. I am so excited to be a part of Tyler Miller Tutoring and a part of your children’s learning journey!

Kyle Bittner

Hello all.  My name is Kyle Bittner and I am proud to be working as a tutor with Tyler Miller and his team.  Teaching and working with children has been a long time passion of mine.  Starting as a teenager my first job was running after-school camps for my local youth center.  After earning my black belt I began teaching TaeKwonDo classes, where I developed my lesson planning skills.  When Washington State made it a requirement to pass the math and science portions of state tests, I began to tutor my friends.  Even if I did not know it at that time, it would seem I had a future in teaching.

A bit of my background, my undergraduate degree is in Chemistry from Washington State University.  After that I attended Concordia University Portland to get my Masters in Teaching.  While I loved chemistry, and spent one year teaching at the highschool, I wanted to reach students earlier in their school careers.  I decided the best way to do this was to teach the basics that my high school students struggled with the most.  I spent the next 6 years teaching 6-8th grade math at Nisqually Middle School in Lacey Washington.

After my fiance graduated school with a degree in Physical Therapy, we decided it was time to search out better weather and friendly people, which brought us to Bend, OR in the summer of 2022!

Teaching math is my favorite thing to do.  Explaining the “why” and not just the “how” is fundamental to how I teach. I love explaining the tips and tricks that not only make math easier, but also bridge together topics to help with future learning.

When I am not tutoring or working with the schools I like to play piano, cook, study martial arts and research how to do all these things better on YouTube.

Monica Buehler

I have been an elementary school teacher working with children and families for the past 35 years.  I have taught all grades between K-5 with primary grades being the focus of my career, except for the last six years teaching (and loving) 4th grade.  I recently retired in 2022, but still have a desire to help kids achieve academic success.  I have my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from California State University Northridge, my Teaching Certificate from California State University Fullerton, and my Masters in Education from United States International University.  My teaching philosophy has always been: if I’m not having fun, the kids probably aren’t either, so lets have fun while we learn!  Becoming a “life long learner” is something I strive to instill in all my students!

After living on the Oregon Coast for many years, we moved to Bend in 2005 to raise our two daughters.  When I’m not teaching, you can find me walking our dog, Finn, paddling the river, skate skiing up on Mt. Bachelor, reading a good book, or hanging out with family and close friends.  Many days are spent playing and exploring with our five year old granddaughter!

I’m excited to be a part of Tyler Miller Tutoring and look forward to helping my students become the best “life long learners” they can be.

Kasey King

Hi! I’m Kasey King and am so happy to be tutoring at Tyler Miller Tutoring! I have been teaching for 4 years and as a teacher, I love getting to spend 1 on 1 time with students working on their targeted needs. I find so much joy in making meaningful connections with young children and watching them grow. I keep learning fresh and fun- teaching without students realizing they’re learning. I value teaching in a way to make students love learning and spark their curiosity to be a life long learner. I received my bachelors in Liberal Studies and credential from Chico State. I have my masters from Western Governors University in Curriculum and Instruction with my research in teaching phonics.

I moved to Bend in the summer of 2022 from Chico, CA. I love to be outside- kayaking, hiking, floating, camping, snowshoeing, playing fetch with my dog, doing yoga, or just hanging out! I love to plan & enjoy long road trips camping in the bed of my Tacoma with my partner and dog. I am a photographer and love taking couple and senior portraits in beautiful Central Oregon. I am an animal lover and am currently trying to convince my partner to get a kitten to join our puppy. I am excited to get to know you and your family!

I have lived in over 6 states, but living in Bend feels like home. The beauty of Central Oregon and people in Bend are what makes it so special. I love it all – going hiking, camping on the lake, floating the river, spending time with my family, mountain biking, snowboarding, exploring the mountains, the wildlife, anything outdoors!

I am so excited to work with you and your family and look forward to getting to know you!
